June 2022 was special for Chris Lovick Jr. – it was the month he closed on his forever home: four stories with a rooftop deck. The journey, not easy, proved worth it.
After two years of searching for land in South Dallas, Chris decided to take matters into his own hands and reach out to the community to see how he could build in a historical part of the city. That landed him at SouthFair, where he requested to purchase a lot – something SouthFair usually doesn’t do. But what was apparent was his desire to grow in an area where he believed in the potential.
Chris Lovick Jr. has proven to care for this community. His nonprofit, Compassion Crowd serves those experiencing homelessness. His newest endeavors include building an economic engine to grow South Dallas around MLK Blvd. A task he knows will require commitment but isn’t impossible.
He shared how his homebuilding journey also wasn’t easy. It required a meeting with the City Planning Commissioner as well as the City Council, to gain permission to rezone. The pandemic also handed out its own share of setbacks. At the end, the Veteran came out on top and is now working on seeing his vision for South Dallas come to life.
